New look: Cher Lloyd shows off her new partially-shaved hairstyle as she arrives at the Channel 4 studios in London today


With her new debut solo single coming out, Cher Lloyd is hoping to make an impact on the charts.

So what better way to get maximum publicity by changing hew look to coincide with the release of her single.

Heading to the Channel 4 studios today, the 17-year-old showed off her new partially-shaven hairstyle.

Perhaps in a bid to be taken more seriously as an urban artist, the Malvern-raised singer has taken a razor to the right side of her head.

But fashionistas may think Lloyd is a tad behind the times with this style, which came to prominence among urban singers two years ago.

American R&B singer Cassie shaved her part of her long locks off in April 2009, followed by Rihanna a few months later.

In January 2010, Will Smith's daughter Willow also shaved her hair, with ex-Spice Girl Mel B and her daughter Phoenix following suit a few weeks later.

Since leaping to fame as a contestant on last year's X Factor, Lloyd has loved to experiment with her fame.

While on the show, she wore long brunette hair extensions, with a briefly flirtation with red hair dye for a few weeks.

During the X Factor Live tour earlier this year, she returned to a red - but more of a Ronald McDonald hue.

Lloyd is currently promoting her debut single Swagger Jagger, with the video premiering online last week and has already received over 2million hits.

Cher Lloyd has posted a teaser of debut single Swagger Jagger online, but is keeping the storyline well and truly under wraps.

The X Factor star released an eight second montage from the video, keeping fans on their toes by revealing very little detail.

The clip kicks off with the Malvern teenager popping her Sony walkman into her pocket, along with a quick glimpse of some jewellery on her fingers.

The 17-year-old has two rings, both of which are a duplicate of Scrabble board pieces, with one printed with 'C' for Cher and another with 'L' for Lloyd.


In another scene, Cher is dressed in preppy beige trousers, a stripey shirt and a bowtie.

She completes the look, reminiscent of an American fast-food chain worker, with a red denim waistcoat, complete with her name emblazoned on it, which highlights her petite frame.

The pop princess is also seen strutting down the street in grey jogging bottoms and a leather jacket.

Her hair extensions, tinged blonde at the bottom, hang over her shoulders to reveal a huge pair of bling earrings and a chunky chain.

Last night, Cher tweeted: 'From 8am tomorrow there shall be a teaser of my video (swagger jagger) on my official website! Make sure you check it out!♥ ta (:'

The audio for Cher's track was slammed by critics when it leaked last week.

Even British chart-topper Example muscled in on the action, saying: 'Cher Lloyd's single has been leaked. The biggest crime since she got a record deal.'

He added: 'It’s all manufactured which is fine, cause that’s what a lot of pop music is. but they could have put her in with all the best songwriters in the world but the best they could come up with is “get on the floor floor floor, get on the floor” and “Swagger Jagger” which means absolutely nothing.

'So I think its back to the drawing board for her and her record label.'

But Cher is proving to be a tough little creature, defending herself by tweeting: 'Well we all knew I'd get mixed reviews! I'm still proud, my dream came true. Thanks for all the support! Xxxx'

The full video will be released in one week.

She's had her own unique sense of style since she emerged on X Factor last year - and Cher Lloyd shows no sign of toning down her fashion choices any time soon.

The 17-year-old, who's preparing to release her debut solo single Swagger Jagger, arrived at the BBC Radio 1 studios in London today wearing a white holey top that showed off a bright blue bra underneath.

The clothes mad singer had teamed the 'Swiss cheese' style top with pale grey skinny trousers, black jewelled stiletto boots and a pink cardigan.

The star also stopped to sign autographs for fans who'd waited outside the Radio 1 studios before she went in to be interviewed by DJ Scott Mills - and for the premiere of her debut solo single.

Cher also chatted to Scott about her music, her fans - and her 'haters.'

She also dismissed rumours about having recorded a track with her former X Factor mentor Cheryl Cole, saying she has had no contact with her since the show ended.

When asked about negative press and public opinion towards her she replied: 'I can see why people don't like me.'

And on being labelled a brat - the name given to all her fans on Twitter - she confessed: 'I haven't grown up yet and probably never will.'

Her debut single Swagger Jagger meanwhile is sure to provoke Marmite-like reactions from listeners.

Cher has deliberated referred to the controversy surrounding her in the lyrics of the song too.

The include: 'You can't stop clickin 'bout me. Writin' 'bout me, tweeting 'bout me.

'Swagger jagger you should get some of your own. Count that money, get your game on.'

The track will hit the shops on 31 July.

The Malvern, Worcestershire youngster is clearly thrilled to bits to be finally releasing new material.

She wrote on her Twitter account this evening: 'I've had such an crackin day! thanks to everyone at radio 1 and 1xtra! big up to my team ! swagggerrrr jagggerrrrrr!!!!!!'

Cher has previously said of the single: 'Swagger Jagger was one of the first tracks we recorded and I loved it straight away and knew it had to be my first single! I hope you all like it.'

However, UK rapper Example, who is currently at No. 1 in the UK singles charts, is not a fan.

He mocked Lloyd after an unfinished version of the song was leaked online last week, tweeting: 'The biggest crime since she got a record deal.'

Cher's debut album meanwhile, which she's been working on with producers including Max Martin, Red One and TMS, is out in November.

Critics have slammed Cher Lloyd's debut single after it leaked online - and now The X Factor star is convinced, 'People wanna ruin me.'

Cheryl Cole's mini-me, who was shipped off to LA to record her new material, turned to Twitter to express her disappointment.

New track Swagger Jagger appeared on YouTube yesterday, but Cher defended herself saying it was only a demo and not the finished product.


The 17-year-old wrote: 'I've never been this upset ever!

'I worked so hard, and people wanna ruin it for me. If you wanted to hurt me you've done a great job.

The Malvern teen stole the nation's heart while singing Keri Hilson's version of Turn My Swag On during her audition for Simon Cowell's show.

Despite impressive renditions of Shakepeare's Sister hit Stay and Alicia Keys and Jay-Z's Empire Stated Of Mind, Cher lost popularity after fans accused her of having a big ego - eventually landing her in fourth place.

She added: 'Please don't do this to me. I wish I was at home with my family. I've been through enough this year.'

But less than an hour later, she returned to the social networking site ready to take on the backlash.

She wrote: 'Me and my brats are stronger than this!! Come on! Let's get em!

Online reviews have been less than complimentary about the song, which is no longer available after a copyright claim from her label.

However, Cher has now uploaded a 30 second preview, saying: 'Here’s a clip of the real thing. Hope you enjoy (:'

One critic said: 'The oh-so-familiar chorus line is given the flimsy support of synth strokes plodded on to tape by a year 9 music student.'

There was also a flow of wrath on Twitter, with one fan writing: 'just witnessed the death of music in the form of cher lloyds new song. wow'.

Another blogger said: 'omg cher lloyds new tune is embarrassing thats something a bunch of primary school kids would make up in their playground'.

Cher's debut album is set for a September release on Cowell's label SyCo.
