Elle 'The Body' Macpherson, 48, reveals the truth about her school run glamour - and the secret behind her perfect figure

By Deborah Arthurs

Dressed up: Elle Macpherson says if she is glamorous on the school run, she is en route to a modelling job and has spent hours having her hair and make up done

Looking good on the school run is not such a challenge when you're a willowy supermodel nicknamed The Body.

And true to form, 48-year-old model Elle Macpherson's early morning appearances feature immaculate catwalk-ready outfits that attract admiration and envy in equal parts.

But in a confession that will no doubt please the fellow school gate mothers who are said to despair at her seemingly effortless glamour, Elle confesses that on the occasions she has been snapped looking picture perfect, she has actually been getting ready for hours.

Yummy mummy: Elle's school run glamour attracts admiration and envy in equal measures

'I find it amusing that so much is made about my appearance, especially when I'm dropping my son off at school, she told Radio Times this week.

'I'm often on the way to work, so I've spent two hours having my hair and make up done, and I'm wearing "work" clothes, she says.

In contrast to the hours of grooming that go into her working day appearance, Elle says her usual routine takes just ten minutes.'

'I don't wear make up, high heels and leather trousers in everyday life.'

Innate style: 'Not every day is a leather trousers day!' When she's not working Elle says she spends just 10 minutes getting ready, and often dresses down

It's not only Elle's yummy mummy chic that gets her noticed though. With her perfect figure and youthful skin, Elle looks decades younger than her age.

The businesswoman puts her success down to nothing more than healthy eating and meditation. The mother-of-two follows a strict organic diet and practises yoga and meditation daily to maintain her appearance.

'I love working with my trainer James Duigan, although I'm nearly 50 now so I have different requirements to when I was 20.

Good sport: Elle dresses down as she does the school run en route to the gym... but still manages to look chic

'I don't run eight miles a day like I used to. I eat a lot of organic food and drink lots of water, and I take time for meditation to set up my day.'
'Beauty comes from within,' she adds.

But Elle, whose products and modelling contracts earn her an estimated £30million a year, proves she still knows how to dress down.

Supermodel: Elle, executive producer and host of Britain's Next Top Model, maintainS her incredible figure and youthful looks through 'healthy eating and meditation'

In a move that is likely to please her fellow school gate mothers, Elle was spotted on this week's school run dressed down in three-quarter length running trousers and a zip-up top, her bare face covered with sunglasses, her scraped-back hair with a baseball cap.

The most galling thing? She still managed to look a million dollars.

Elle Macpherson shows the danger of too much tanning as she steps out with leathery-looking legs

By Daily Mail Reporter

The dangers of too much tanning: Elle Mapherson displayed leathery-looking skin on her legs as she did the school run today

We've all been warned of the dangers off too much sun, but often people forget to put sunscreen on their legs.

And it appears Elle Macpherson is guilty of such a crime, judging by photographs of the supermodel out today.

Wearing a pair of cropped leggings, the slightly leathery-looking skin on Elle's leg was clear to see as she stepped out in London on the school run.

But the 48-year-old star appeared unaware of the fragile skin on her legs, and flashed a huge smile at photographers as she headed to the gym.

Mother-of-two Elle teamed her leggings with a red skirt, white T-shirt, black zip-up jacket and white trainers as she fitted in her workout.

The outfit was in sharp contrast to Elle's usual school run gear, which has included in the past red leather trousers, sky-high heels and huge volumised hair.

However, speaking recently Elle actually addressed claims she gets dressed for the school run - insisting the chic wardrobe is actually her work wear.

She said on the Graham Norton Show: 'What people don't know is that I'm actually on my way to work so they say, "Why does she dress up for the school run?."

'It's like, "Hello, it's half past 8 in the morning and I go to work like everybody else." '

Meanwhile, it was announced today that Elle will be hosting a new show on NBC called Fashion Star, which will see aspiring designers compete for the chance to win a multi-million dollar contract to launch their own brands.

She will be joined by celebrity mentor Jessica Simpson - the perfect choice for the role given that she has already built a clothing empire worth nearly $1billion.

Off to the gym: Elle headed to a workout after dropping her sons off at school

Ben Silver, whose company Electus will produce the show, said: 'We are excited to team up with NBC to discover and develop the next major fashion brand for retailers around the country and deliver the next breakout television show for an audience that is increasingly obsessed with fashion.

'The stakes are higher than any other competitive reality show, as Fashion Star pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to launch a major national brand.'
