Even though she looked flawless as she greeted fans at her perfume launch last night Katy Perry was well aware that she didn't appear quite right.

Because the singer was sporting a new accidental hair colour.

The 26-year-old songstress debuted a striking strawberry blonde hue to her hair, which for a long time has been dyed jet black, as she introduced her fragrance Purr at Sears in Toronto, Canada.

'On my way to launch PURR in TORONTO! FINALLY CA has PURR avail to them! she wrote on her Twitter page earlier in the day.

'P.s. If u see a ginger haired girl that looks like me, it's me! #yay.'

Katy, who is a natural blonde, has spent years maintaining her hair as a dark brunette, even dying her eyebrows and eyelashes to match.

But in order to take her hair back to blonde the I Kissed A Girl singer had to complete the process in two stages.


So just over a week ago she had her hair dyed this dark red-blonde colour.

'So I didn't get to the exact color (sic) I wanted from being black for so long! she explained to her fans on Twitter.

Katy is currently in the middle of her California Dreams tour which sees her performing tonight in Toronto before heading to Montreal and Ottawa next week.

Meanwhile, back at home in Los Angeles, it was revealed that Katy and her husband Russell Brand have bought a $6.5 million Hollywood Hills mansion.

He's known for his tactile manner but Russell Brand will raise more than a few eyebrows with these shots of him holding a pretty girl's hand.

The reformed lothario, 36 , is on set in Miami where he's filming new movie Rock of Ages, and the fair haired maiden is clearly a crew member.

Russell is given to such displays of warm affectionate towards people that such tender gestures largely go unnoticed.


But the fact that the pair of them were holding in hands today in a manner normally reserved for romantic couples is striking.

It comes hot on the heels of news that Brand's wife of eight months, pop sensation Katy Perry, is extending her tour well into November.

A source told the Mail: 'Katy has only four days off until the end of September, when she’s in Brazil.’

The pair are even have even put their L.A home in trendy Los Feliz on the market, with friends reporting it is empty most of the time.

When Brand delivered his best man's speech at rock legend Noel Gallagher's wedding at the weekend in England, Perry, 26 , was unable to be by his side.

Brand is said to have brought the house down by affectionately lampooning the former Oasis great, and telling stories about his new wife, Sara McDonald.

But there was no chance to relive fond memories of his marriage to Perry on a tiger reserve in India last October.

And with the comedian's commitments on the film - which is being adapted from the Broadway hit and stars Tom Cruise and Catherine Zeta Jones - destined to keep him in Miami for the foreseeable, it could be hard for the newlyweds to spend any quality time together.

But reports of trouble in paradise are unfounded, and it's likely that Brand is just being his usual touchy feely self.

Perry's tour takes her around the US and the UK over the forthcoming months, and Brand is so keen to see her despite their clashing schedules that he even flies with their pet cats.

She told the Daily Star: 'I miss my kitties. One time I asked Russell to bring the cats with him so we could all hang out. Putting a cat on a plane is strange, but I always make sure it’s in first class.'
